Shiraz Geometric Hand Knotted Wool Rug 293x204cm
Shiraz carpets are simple carpets made of wool in the villages around the city of Shiraz, in the province of Fars.
The natural material is processed to a knot density of 80,000-160,000 knots per square metre.
Designs tend to come from settled tribal weavers so they mimic Qashqai, Khamseh (Basseri and Khamseh), Afshar, Abadeh and Luri designs. The Shiraz carpet is the only rug to depict nightingales, which are shown as angular-shaped birds. These birds are said to symbolise contentment and happiness.
